The right answer when the real goal is owning your infrastructure rather than renting privacy from a vendor, scaling from a Raspberry Pi to a company server. The catch is that you are now the administrator: you handle setup, updates, backups, and security, and that is a genuine commitment, not a download. Choose it if self-hosting appeals and you will maintain it; if you want storage that someone else keeps running, a hosted service is the saner path.
